This Accountability Challenge is an elementary introduction to nutrition — something meant to just give you that kick in the right direction, establish momentum, and help you stay accountable for an 8-week period of time. There’s nothing complicated about it; we’ll focus on the basics.

5 Daily Challenges + 3 Levels of Commitment

  • Drink 1/2 your bodyweight in oz water per day.

  • Sleep for at least 7 hours.

  • Complete 10 min of mobility each day.

  • Complete 30 min or activity each day.

  • No alcohol.

Level 1 - No Added Sugar

Common sense. Diabetes is one of the highest, if not THE highest, diseases plaguing society today. Not only is this a major problem for adults, but kids are being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes when they are still in elementary school, some even before they make it there. When kids are being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, something that is entirely controllable (Type I is genetic), we know we need to make a change.

Level 2 - No Added Sugar or Grains

Grains are a staple of our diet, and a source of energy. However, because of their concentrated carbohydrate nature (often referred to as “complex carbs”), the body will respond with an insulin spike, causing any excess carbohydrate to be stored as fat. Additionally, grains have high levels of phytates, particularly whole grains. Research has shown that phytates easily bind to important minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and zinc, as well as vitamins D, A, C, and B12. This can lead to vitamin and mineral deficiencies or at the very least, sub-optimal levels of these essential nutrients.

Level 3 - No Added Sugar, Grains, or Dairy

Dairy can cause a short spike in insulin. It is the chronic elevation of insulin that can be the problem with weight gain. If your weight is dialed in, and the rest of your carbohydrate intake is well managed, many folks can work with dairy, but we still don’t recommend it. The real culprit with dairy is lactose and casein sensitivity. Many folks have difficulty digesting lactose. This brings us back to the gut wall becoming inflamed as the body attempts to rid itself of the foreign invader commonly known as lactose.
